Traumatic brain injuries among children and teens in the United States are most often associated with everyday consumer products and activities, such as home furnishings and fixtures or sports, according to a new study. About 72% of traumatic brain injury-related emergency department visits among children are attributable to consumer products, found the study published in the journal Brain Injury on Monday. 23,000 Trampolines Recalled After Reports of Metal Legs Breaking

The U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission is recalling around 23,000 trampolines after dozens of reports of the welds on the metal railings breaking off. According to the CPSC, the recall involves Super Jumper 14-foot trampolines, and 14-foot and 16-foot combo trampolines with enclosures sold without reinforcement clamps. Super Jumper has received 97 reports of the welds on the metal railings breaking, resulting in four injuries. The trampolines were sold online at Amazon, Wayfair, Hayneeedle and Overstock websties from Nov. 2011 through June 2019. AAA Study: New Infotainment Systems Heightens Risk of Distracted Driving

Infotainment systems found in new cars can be a dangerous distraction for older drivers, according to a study by the American Automobile Association. AAA tested drivers as they tried to tune the radio or navigate with the new systems. "Our foundation for traffic safety concluded that senior drivers become distracted up to eight seconds longer than younger drivers while operating infotainment systems," says Lauren Paterno, of AAA Northeast. Construction Worker Injured in Fall Through School Roof in Brooklyn

A construction worker was seriously injured after falling through the ceiling of a building in Brooklyn. Citizen App video shows firefighters arriving at 16th Avenue in Bensonhurst just before 9 a.m. after getting a call about a partial roof collapse. Instead, they discovered that the worker had somehow fallen through the ceiling at JHS 227. He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. All other construction workers were accounted for. Worker Killed by Falling Construction Equipment in the Bronx

A Bronx recycling center worker was killed in a freak accident Saturday, police said. The 47-year-old man was welding a piece of metal on to the front bucket of a bulldozer when the bucket fell on top of him on Exterior St. near E. 146th St. in the South Bronx at about 1:30 p.m., cops said. Boat Crash Kills 2 Women, Injures Several Others

Two women were killed in separate crashes in the water off Long Island on Sunday, officials said. An 18-year-old woman was on a Jet Ski when it crashed into a 35-foot boat around 10:30 a.m. off of Baldwin Harbor, a hamlet in Hempstead, Nassau County police said. The victim, later identified as Caitlin Rose McDonald of Rockville Center, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Disney yanked thousands of the plush toy “Forky” — featured as a sidekick in “Toy Story 4” — from the shelves because they pose a choking hazard, officials said Tuesday. Falling debris injured three stagehands, one critically, inside a theater in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday morning. Teenage Construction Worker Falls from Roof

A 17-year-old construction worker is in critical condition after falling from scaffolding on the roof of a home in Freeport. Police say the teenager and another man were working on a home on South Bayview Avenue when they fell at least 30 feet when makeshift scaffolding collapsed.
